2019 Tuesday evening adventures

In 2019, every Tuesday from April to September the club, weather permitting, met at a local outdoor crag.

(Things have been a little different in 2020 but more on that later.)

Here is a taste of what we got up to and what we hope to resume in the near future.

Evening climbing at Ilkley, new club members getting to grips with the griststone

Once a month we met at Almscliff for the ‘social’

Regular sessions outdoors on the local crags can make a huge impact to your climbing skills. From improving technique, rope management, placing gear, jamming all key skills developed on the small outcrops pay dividends when you make it into the mountains.
The confidence I got from the outdoor Tuesday evening sessions can’t be under-estimated.

What were the skies like when you were young?

They went on forever and they, when I, we lived in Yorkshire
And the skies always had little fluffy clouds
And they moved down, they were long and clear
And there were lots of stars at night

And when it would rain it would all turn, it, they were beautiful
The most beautiful skies as a matter of fact
The sunsets were purple and red and yellow and on fire
And the clouds would catch the colors everywhere
That’s neat, ’cause I used to look at them all the time when I was little

You don’t see that anymore
maybe you can still see it it on the moors.

After the climbing ? If we had time we’d head to the pub. Recount the evenings adventure,  nurse sore limbs and make plans for the next outdoor trip. Finally driving home on empty roads, wondering why we don’t do this every day….
